Expensive Dental Visit

I had my most expensive dental visit yesterday. Consultation ($77) (w/o the usual cleansing of the teeth) + Radiograph ($98) = $175.

The dental clinic is at Clifford Centre. Perhaps the place is more for the “Ang Moh”… Thus the price… But the medical clinic beside it charges at a very affordable price… :( Reason why I went there is the convenience. (Went during lunch) We had another dental clinic nearby, Raffles Dental which is at OUB Centre. But I had quite a horrifying experience there the last visit… Thus, strike that off my list.

Anyway, the doc says I needed to do root canal on one of my tooth! Arghh….

teeth 1

Im having problem with my “No. 5″ tooth. The “Premolar” tooth… Sigh….

root canal

The dentist gave me a “treatment plan” – quotation… (Inclusive of the root canal, crowning of 1 tooth)

Total – $2580 :(

<<<VERY EXPENSIVE>>>

Anyone has any cheaper lobang anot? Ed recommended that I go thru the polyclinic to get a referral letter then to the NDC so that I can get a subsidized rate… But alas.. I called.. The person says their appointment is full till next year June/July!! Wah Biang!! Stupid System!! Then I checked the price for NDC online, The 1st consultation without subsidized rate is also ard $70 – $90 lor!! While the subsidized rate is ard $33++ !!!

Oh man… Called Boon Lay Dental (I went there to extract my 1st wisdom tooth), they said they dun do on the molar teeth… Biangz…. The dentist near my home, co-own by my neighbour.. So I didnt wanna go there… So weird.. Then the other one, I went there once…The dentist doesnt seem to have much experience & the nurse kept pushing me products to buy.. :(

Oh man… Now the search for dentist begins…. Sigh….

Ok, although I’m only 13 years old and I have just recieved a root canal treatment about a month ago. It’s A LOT of pain and it really surprised me. I brush my teeth 4 times a day, and sometimes in school, too! My family is really big on the “oral hygiene” stuff, so I brush my teeth before and after I eat. It’s just that I have braces and all kinds of orthodontic work, that somehow bacteria started growing near my gums, unfortunately below a metal band around my tooth. Food got trapped under the band and the decay traveled to my other tooth. My orthodontist, dentist, and even my endodontist said that this is a rare occasion, and it’s really rare it occurred to me, especially. Anyways, the first night, I didn’t know what to do. I have chronic pain in my jaw, swelling. It hurt very bad. I only slept for 3-4 hours that night. My advice: please, please, tell an adult/parent or your dentist if you are an adult if you have swelling pain by the back of your jaw, or anywhere in your month that persists for more than 1-2 days. It’s best for someone else around you, your dentist to know. It’s so painful I had to almost be dismissed from school because of the chronic, swelling, uncomfortable pain. I’m a straight A student, and I don’t like school that much, it’s just that I really wanted to finish up the day at school and not worry about making up work. So, if you are feeling pain, anywhere in your mouth, see a dentist, ortho, or endodontist ASAP! I just wanted to pass this information on so other people won’t have to go what I go through. By the way, you may have to go to an endodontist or dentist 3-4 or maybe five times to finish up your root canal. It’s a LONG process. The cost was really bad too. $1,500.00, including the permanent white filling you have to follow-up with your dentist for. So for the future keep brushing the teeth, use mouthwash with fluoride, recommended for braces and other orthodontic work: Phos Flur. It works very, very well and can be found in stores, such as Wal*Mart. Lastly, if you have a root canal, or a condition relatively close to a root canal, visit Endodontic Inc. if you live near one. They are great people who will treat your problems if your are searching for an endodontist near you. I hope this helped—> respect your teeth because they’re yours for life!!!!!! =]

well folks.. i to had a quote for over £1000 for root canal work..but as i was going to thailand the next week i waited, And i am glad i did. The dentists in Bangkok were the kindest and most gentle i have ever met, They would stay open untill 11pm if i required or be open at 7am, they would send a taxi to the hotel to pick me up. The work was done for £120 including teeth cleaning …a saving of £880,……..this is more than the holiday cost….fabulous

  7. I hope that your root canal went well. Yes it is an expensive procedure, in any country, but it is worth saving your tooth, if you can afford it of course.

  8. in Israel the cost of treament much much lower, you come to Israel for treatment and vacation, even if you will go to one of the best clinic the total price still could be lower.

Its true, dentistry is prohibitively expensive in US. I was in Chicago to visit my son last July. suddenly I developed unbearable pain in one of my molars. I visited a dentist of course without prior appointment. He was kind enough to examine& diagnose that the molar should be treated immediately. I was told that extraction of the TOOTH costs $423 and root canal treatment costs $2500. i settled for extraction, and i asked for the extracted tooth. The dentist refused .! am 64 yrs.Moral take very good care of your teeth.

hello! just happened to come across this post even though it was posted about 2 years ago. actually, at NUH, there is a subsidized treatment program that is offered because its a training programme for the dentistry undergraduate course.

all treatment is carried out by clinical dental students like me, and its completely supervised by our professors and doctors.

examples of prices are: root canal treatments ~ $70, crowns ~ $150-200, bridges ~ $450, fillings ~$8, wisdom tooth removal ~$200

the only downside of getting treatment at NUH under the dental students is the time factor, which means that the patients have to be quite free to come down, because each appointment is about 2.5-3 hours long (since all our work has to be checked), and the number of appointments would be at least 4-5..

i am writing from new delhi, india. i have recently got my root canal and crown placement done. compared to america or europe cost of these procedures is very low in india. generally rct would cost about 50 $ to 75$ and crown will cost another 50 $ to 70$ in the best clinics. not only this all the other medical procedures are available at 15 to 20% cost compared to europe or america. the expertise and the facilities are at par with any western country. i know of many people who fly down here to avail such benefits. medical tourism makes a lot of sense.
